Five Reasons to Join the Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains This Month

The Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains (BABRM) has spent 60 years bringing together the people who shape Western North Carolina’s built environment.

That network is still growing—and so is its impact. In 2025 alone, more than 170 new members joined, bringing BABRM to more than 1,300 professionals across the region. If you’ve been considering getting involved, here are five reasons why now is the time.

1. Build Relationships That Lead to Real Work

BABRM creates consistent opportunities to connect with the people who shape the work happening across the region.

In 2025 alone, the Association hosted more than 25 events—from casual networking gatherings like After Hours to large, consumer-facing experiences like the WNC Parade of Homes—and supported more than 150 committee and council meetings, including groups like the Workforce Development Committee and the Professional Women in Building Council.

Those touchpoints go beyond initial introductions. They give members a chance to build and strengthen relationships with industry partners, leading to referrals, project partnerships, and long-term collaboration.

2. Stay Competitive With Practical Education

BABRM provides access to continuing education, professional development, and industry insights designed to support how members work every day.

Through the Advanced Contractor Education program, members can dive deeper into topics like business strategy, management, and adapting to changing consumer demands. Members can also pursue professional designations through the North Carolina Builder Institute and the National Association of Home Builders, creating clear pathways for career advancement and differentiation in the market.

“Our goal is to make sure members can plug in at any level,” says Jude DeVirgiliis, Membership Manager at BABRM. “Whether you’re looking to meet your continuing education requirements, learn something new, or take the next step in your career, there are opportunities here to support that.”

3. Have a Voice in the Issues That Affect Your Business

BABRM members regularly engage with regional leaders on housing and development issues, advocating for more predictable processes, improved access to land, and fewer delays that can stall projects or increase costs.

Through its 3-in-1 membership, BABRM members are also part of the North Carolina Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders, and have opportunities to bring local insight into conversations happening in Raleigh and Washington, D.C.

“There are real opportunities for our members to get involved and help shape policy,” says DeVirgiliis. “The more engaged our membership is, the more impact we’re able to have.”

4. Make an Impact in Your Community

BABRM gives members a way to show up for their community in meaningful, hands-on ways.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, for instance, the Association partnered with BeLoved Asheville to deliver critical supplies, restore communication, and reach isolated communities across Western North Carolina.

That same spirit carries into ongoing volunteer efforts. Through initiatives like monthly volunteer days and partnerships with organizations like Transylvania Habitat for Humanity and Transformation Village—a local nonprofit that provides transitional housing and support for women and families—members contribute their time and expertise to projects that directly support neighbors, whether that means helping rebuild a home or preparing meals.

5. Be Part of an Award-Winning Organization

The work happening within BABRM is getting noticed—and not just locally.

In 2025, the Association earned five national Association Excellence Awards from the National Association of Home Builders for its leadership in disaster recovery following Hurricane Helene. BABRM has also received multiple honors from the North Carolina Home Builders Association and now ranks as the 13th largest builders association in the country.

That level of recognition reflects the strength of the network itself, signaling an organization that is active, engaged, and consistently delivering meaningful results for its members.

“Being part of BABRM demonstrates a commitment not just to your own business, but to the standards and future of the industry,” DeVirgiliis says. “That carries weight. It builds trust, strengthens relationships, and positions our members as part of something that’s making a real impact.”
