Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity

On April 4, we were asked to attend the Habitat for Humanity Executive build at the Dodd Meadows Community in Hendersonville. As the Advocacy and Community Engagement Director, it’s helpful for me to familiarize myself with all the ways Habitat does amazing work to support housing, especially for the workforce.  One of the criteria that increases the chance of a home here is working in Henderson County. Dodd Meadows is a wonderful community, with a  center full of books and toys, nature trails, and a community garden.  The community has 84 homes and will have 114 by the time its construction is done.  There is an entire section that is  ADA compliant. I was excited to learn more about their process to home ownership, and all who live at 80% AMI or less should look into home ownership through their programs.

Building Homes and Hope with Habitat

It was empowering work beside powerful women in construction who also foster relationships to support women in the trades. Linda Saterno, Executive Director and Linda Cairns, Director of Marketing and ReStore Operations, run a well-oiled machine. I was excited to see some folks in their team I knew and meet new ones.

Advent Health, Andersen Windows, Eaton Corporation, and Blue Ridge Service core were a few in attendance.  Bruce Gordon, Director Of Construction, and his crew were ready for us and it was a wonderful day.

Look for more partnerships coming soon.  We love our non-profits out here addressing the housing crisis.  If you’re interested in volunteering or supporting their cause, reach out to Sarah at ashevillehba.com.
