Event Overview: Competition, Community, and Camaraderie
The 11th Annual Battle of the Builders brought the perfect mix of camaraderie, competition, and community spirit to K-Wall Poured Walls last Thursday. From the moment the first cornhole bags were tossed to the last bite of Wally’s Backyard BBQ, the day was packed with memorable moments. But some parts of the day truly stood out as the best.
1. The Competition (and the Bragging Rights)
There’s no denying that the heart of the Battle of the Builders lies in the competition. With 16 teams battling it out in this double-elimination tournament, the excitement was palpable. The winning team, CSDB 2—comprising Dillon Baker and Corban Hossley—walked away with a $400 prize and, of course, the coveted bragging rights. Coming in a close second, Builders First Corn, with Chad Corey and Cannon Hartzog, earned a solid $200 for their efforts.
The intensity in the final rounds had everyone on their feet as these top teams went head-to-head, with teammates and spectators alike cheering them on. The best part? Watching the pure joy (and a little bit of relief) as CSDB 2 clinched the win after a hard-fought day.
2. The Food & Beverages
Our sponsors made sure no one went hungry or thirsty. Thanks to HomeTrust Bank, ice-cold beverages were flowing all day long, and Hi-Tech sponsored a mouth-watering BBQ spread catered by Wally’s Backyard BBQ. There’s just something about sharing good food with good people that brings the community together.
3. Free Consults with Journey Physical Therapy
One unique feature of the day was having David Gerrer, a Physical Therapist and Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist from Journey Physical Therapy, LLC, offering free consultations on-site. This was a great opportunity for attendees to get expert advice on any aches or pains, making the event not just fun, but also beneficial for everyone’s well-being.
4. The Reverse Raffle & T-Shirt Frenzy
Who knew a reverse raffle could be so exciting? Thanks to cLearn LLC, everyone stayed engaged as prizes were handed out throughout the day. And those limited-edition Battle T-shirts? They sold out faster than ever, proving once again that these shirts are a must-have for anyone attending.
5. The Lounging & Shade
With the sun shining bright, the shade provided by WNC FCI Floors, First Citizens Bank, Sherwin Williams, and 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty was a lifesaver. Their tents, chairs, and even hammocks created the perfect spots for people to relax and enjoy the event in comfort.
6. The Community Spirit
More than just a tournament, the Battle of the Builders is about building connections. Whether you were tossing bags, enjoying snacks provided by Huber Engineered Wood, chatting with David Gerrer, or catching up with old friends, the sense of community was palpable. Events like these remind us why we’re so proud to be part of the Western North Carolina building industry.
