Our Sporting Clays Tournament for 2021 was held on April 1st at the Biltmore Sporting Clays Club. We had a great turnout with 9 teams in the morning, and 13 teams in the afternoon. Not only was there clay shooting; there was BBQ (sponsored by Hi-Tech Integrated Systems), and axe throwing (sponsored by Black Bear Realty) as well! Thanks to all our sponsors (see below) and a special thanks to Presenting Sponsor Builder’s FirstSource!
Spring decided to play a little April Fools joke on us and make the day a bit chiller than expected, but the extra bit of wind really tested our shooters skills! We started the morning off with coffee, breakfast, snacks (sponsored by Sherwin Williams), and registration. While the teams were registering, they had the chance to win 2 new guns from our raffle. One was for NC Build PAC and the other was to help the AHBA recoup some of our costs for ammo this year (like lumber the prices have more than doubled). After the always important safety talk, our teams were off!
Sharpshooter sponsors 84 Lumber, and ProSource were out on the course with tables full of water and other snacks. While Griffin Waste supplied extra bathrooms and washing stations for our participants. Ammo was sponsored by CSDB and Griffin Waste, and each shooter got boxes in their bags. There were 6 buckshot sponsors this year including Title Sponsor Builder’s FirstSource, Hi-Tech Integrated Systems, ProSource, cLearn, Gennett Lumber, and Horizon Tile & Stone.
Teams kept scores on scorecards sponsored by Union Home Mortgage and MATH Insurance Services. The smack talk levels were high, but the winners were clear. The winner of our Individual 2020 Round was Jake Reuter who shot for Team Schluter with an unbelievable score of 95! Our Team 2021 Winner was Wright’s Wrongs (Wright Family Custom Homes) with a very impressive score of 348.
We drew for the guns the next day and past President Thomas McClain and Bart Neal were our winners!
It was so wonderful to see so many of our members out there, and we can’t wait for everyone to start safely gathering for more of our events. The clay shoot is always a favorite, so make sure to join us next year!
