After Hours at Olivette

Olivette was a wonderful host for the June AHBA After Hours last Thursday, June 15th. With over 80 people in attendance, an assortment of local craft beers, Mamacita’s catering,  giant cornhole, a riverside view and great networking, you really missed out if you weren’t there.

Attendees were able to explore Olivette and see all of the new construction that is underway in one of Asheville’s newest ‘Agrihoods’. This community exemplifies the AHBA Motto of ‘Do Business with a Member’ as all of the builders with homes under construction in this community are active members of the Asheville HBA.

Being the 41st largest HBA in the country out of over 700 Associations, the AHBA is proud to have one of the strongest memberships in the country. With over 700 local members to date, we appreciate the recruitment efforts of our current members and their dedication to “Doing Business with a Member.” Because their recruitment efforts do not go unnoticed, we give recognition whenever possible and do a drawing for a prize at our After Hours events throughout the year. At this After Hours at Olivette, we were happy to award Brandon Bryant of Red Tree Builders and Pete Monroe of SRS Distribution with giftcards from Ultimate Ice Cream. Thank you to all our members who are actively recruiting local professionals to be members of the AHBA!

During our Annual Golf Tournament in May, AHBA members raised over $600 dollars through our poker-run. During our After Hours Event, members of the AHBA Board of Directors presented the Community Housing Coalition of Madison County with a check for $630 and to help them reach their goals of assisting the residents of Madison County that might not have the resources to complete projects in their homes.

The AHBA was excited to officially announce the recipients for this year’s AHBA Scholarship Award. With a 75% increase in applicants from previous years, we awarded 4 outstanding students studying in a construction related field. Recipients included, Nathan Hall, Ashley Kepley-Steward, Martin Schmedt, and Zachary Whisenant. Learn more about the AHBA Scholarship and the recipients here.

Olivette provided some great door prizes that really showcased their Riverside Community and Farm. Those door prizes included, a full-day wade fishing trip from Hunter Banks, a 5-week veggie CSA and a 5-week flower CSA from Olivette Farm, and a giant corn hole party rental from Asheville Plays.

Thanks again to all of you who attended and for Olivette for hosting such a great event. You can see all the photos from the event on the AHBA Facebook Page. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next AHBA After Hours on August 17 at HomeSource Design Center.
