The AHBA is strong because of its dedicated members, and our members are the Nuts & Bolts of the AHBA. Not only do members make us strong, but the AHBA Staff also do. We are here to be your resource, answer any questions or concerns you may have and to help you and your business succeed through your membership. Nuts & Bolts is back and we have some new faces and voices around the AHBA Office, so we want our members to get to know them. Cecily Schenimann started with the AHBA in December 2018 as the Administrative Assistant.
When you aren’t at work what are you most likely doing?
If I’m not at work, I’m probably at the gym or running. Running is a huge outlet for me to relieve stress and just get outside! I ran my first marathon last March and would love to do another one soon. The Asheville Triathlon has also been on my radar, so I am considering that for July to try out something different.
People would be surprised to know…
Last year I lived in a village in Malawi, Africa for two months. My grandfather and I lived with a national pastor and his family, and I taught English to students and teachers at the local secondary school. I also had the cool privilege of setting up the first library in the area with over 700 books. Right now, we’re working on collecting supplies and materials for a science lab at the same school.
Where did you go to college? What did you study?
I graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia last May. I majored in Business Administration with two concentrations in Project Management and Marketing Analytics. I also minored in Spanish.
Words to live by?
Just do what you love and enjoy, and everything will work out the way it should. This is something my dad has been telling me for years, and it has not failed me yet. As a Christian, I’ve always believed that God created me to have certain dreams and goals. We have hobbies and ambitions for a reason, and my dad always taught me that striving for what you enjoy is the best way to live.
Claim to fame?
I probably own enough books to say that I have a personal library. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, and over the course of time I’ve just accumulated more and more books. I know I have at least 620 books at my house right now. I love learning, and reading has always been the best way for me to do that.
