Rick Buchanan is a long time member, and winner of the 2022 Builder of the Year award. Besides Buchanan Construction, LLC being involved in so many aspects of what the Builders Association does – Rick (as Owner & President ) encourages all of his employees to be involved, giving them the most Affiliate members with our Association. These members serve on committees, regularly attend events, and participate in a variety of ways, which also shines a light on Rick as a leader.
Buchanan Construction, lead by Rick, has grown not just into a well know area builder, but also has won Humanitarian awards from WNC Stars for contributing to the community at large. Let’s get to know Rick a bit better below!
What’s your favorite thing about being a member?
Building relationships through our membership. Whether that’s other builders, associate members, suppliers – we have found significant value in the relationships we’ve built through the HBA over the years. And fostering those relationships not only in a business way but in a personal way, too.
We also appreciate the opportunities for continued training and education for our team! We try and have most our managers, designers, and specialists be involved in someway – whether they’re on a committee, taking continuing education classes, etc. Who we are as a team is what defines who we are as a company, so when we’re all learning and being exposed to the numerous initiatives and goals of the HBA, we’re improved as a team, and improved as a company.
What’s your favorite event from the HBA?
Well, we love the Corn Hole event – we love playing in the event and being competitive! (Rick has won the 2022, 2021, & 2019 Tournaments)
But of course, the WNC Parade of Homes, is our favorite event the HBA hosts each year. It is a unique opportunity to showcase our work.
What’s so special about being a Builder in WNC?
We’re very fortunate to have one of the largest, and most active associations – to my knowledge – in the Country. I think that’s a true testament to our leadership at the local level. There’s a large number of members, but there’s also a huge diversity of members. We have builders focused on green building, some focused-on aging in place, some on affordable housing. Everyone has a unique skillset and focus, and that grows us as members of this industry, overall. That diversity and the sheer number of excellent builders in our area means our team is required to always excel, and continue to learn, hone our talents, and expand.
There’s also a huge focus on our community – being a builder in this area and being connected with the HBA helps us to better understand where there are needs that we can help meet, and the various, meaningful initiatives we can support. Participating in the Parade of Homes, connecting with other professionals, receiving information about the economy and state of the industry overall – all these things help us to grow and better ourselves. I truly believe our team would not be where we are today without our membership at both the local level, state, and National level.
Congratulations Rick! We appreciate your continued support of the Builders Association!
